Life with the chicken has ended
The chicken is dead! We now have to change the bio about our family to eliminate the family chicken, Diamond. Diamond was a school project for Nathan. They were learning about life and they incubated 20 chicken eggs. Last year the teacher incubated 20 chicken eggs and only 3 survived. This year, 17 of the 20 eggs hatched. This was very exciting for the second graders. The teacher said each child who wanted one could take a chicken home at the end of the school year. Nathan begged, saying he wanted one and the house he built with his father in the back yard could be the hen house. His mother went to the school, and reluctantly allowed her son to take the last chicken. She had secrets plans of giving it to another member of the ward. The chicken was doing great - it had tripled in size, the feathers were coming in, he looked great. As mom is not a big fan of animals, she made sure that the kids fed and watered Diamond while dad and Jared were away at Scout Camp. The kids followed through and did as mom asked, but made one fatal error. The water bottle for feeding wasn't screwed in right, it tipped over, and the chicken perished at the front door of the hen house. Nathan was woken up and informed about the terrible fate of his chicken, Diamond. Dad and Nathan then had to dig a whole and bury him in the back yard, as Nathan couldn't stand the idea of Diamond being put in the trash can. This is a sad time for our family, but we knew Diamond would eventually go, as we thought him to be a rooster, and we could not have kept him once he started crowing.
